Ireland - Wales Programme

The INTERREG IIIA Ireland/Wales Community Initiative Programme 2000-2006 covers the counties of Dublin, Meath, Kildare, Wicklow, Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford, and South Tipperary in Ireland and Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, Pembrokeshire, and Anglesey in Wales.

The aim of the Programme is to provide for the sustainable development of the cross-border region through an integrated approach to economic, social and environmental development. The priorities of the Programme is firstly, to encourage the economic, social and technological development of the cross border area and secondly, to achieve sustainable growth by enhancing the overall quality of the cross border region.

The total budget for the Programme is €65.5 million, of which €47.6 million will be provided by the European Regional Development Fund. The Programme will run until the end of 2006.

The programme will be administered by a Joint Technical Secretariat, based in the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) in Wales, and an Irish Liaison Office based in the Southern and Eastern Regional Assembly in Waterford.
